Registration is now open for CSSP’s third annual Strengthening Families Leadership Summit which will be held from June 22-24 in Arlington, VA. Community leaders, activated parents, policymakers, federal and national partners and professionals from across child- and family-serving fields will join together to continue to advance Strengthening Families, a breakthrough strategy for promoting the optimal development for children and preventing child abuse and neglect.

The Strengthening Families approach seeks to build five Protective Factors in families: parental resilience; social connections; knowledge of parenting and child development; concrete support in times of need; and children’s social and emotional development. Research shows that these factors reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect by providing parents with what they need to parent effectively, even under stress. By building relationships with families, programs can recognize signs of stress and build families’ Protective Factors with timely, effective help. Enthusiasm for the Strengthening Families approach has spread across the country with more than 26 state partners and national affiliates.

CSSP anticipates the 2011 Strengthening Families Leadership Summit will provide opportunities to:
  •  Get the newest information about the work underway to develop the evidence base for the Strengthening Families approach and the Protective Factors framework.
  •  Foster relationships with peers across the country as you share your experience and expertise with other leaders in Strengthening Families.
  • Learn about successes and challenges in expanding Strengthening Families into new program and policy arenas, such as place- and faith-based initiatives, home visiting, health and mental health, alternative response systems, military families, teens and new examples of partnering with parents.
  • Survey the many tools and resources available from many sources to support your work.
  • Ask hard questions and generate new ideas about the future of Strengthening Families and new ways of building Protective Factors with families.
  • Open yourself to new relationships with ‘unsuspected partners.’
  • CELEBRATE our success!
