As in past years, the 2012 Promise Neighborhoods Grant Competition attracted substantial interest throughout the nation. According to a statement released by the Department of Education (ED), a total of 242 applications were submitted for the 2012 grant awards, compared to 234 applications in 2011. This year’s application pool consists of 60 proposals for implementation grants and 182 proposals for planning grants.

Roughly $27 million is expected to be awarded for up to seven implementation grants and roughly $7 million is expected to go to 14 planning grants. Remaining funds will provide additional support for the five 2011 implementation grantees. Grant awards will be announced no later than December 31, 2012.
