Promise Neighborhoods Institute launches new Results Scorecard

On Friday August 5th, Promise Neighborhoods Institute (PNI) and Results Leadership Group hosted a webinar to introduce Results Scorecard, a display and analysis tool that enables strategic management and promotes accountability and results. Results Scorecard is the first in a series of infrastructure tools PNI intends to offer to support communities engaging in Promise Neighborhoods work. PNI hopes these tools will increase communities’ capacity and available funds for direct service and facilitate a national movement around Promise Neighborhoods achieving results.

The Results Scorecard will empower communities to track results and progress in a clear and manageable format that can be shared with stakeholders, such as funders and residents. The Scorecard will not be used by PNI to evaluate programs. Instead, the Institute encourages communities to use the Scorecard for personal evaluation and decision-making. Users can easily input quantitative and qualitative (including pictures and video) data and organize information into a variety of formats that promote full understanding of outcomes. For example, users can combine data provided by individual partners working on the same focus areas to comprehensively view outcomes by target results. Furthermore, the scorecard enables users to closely examine trends over time through a “Turn the Curve” template. Since all data is presented in an aggregate format, individual confidentiality is respected and scorecards can be publically shared. PNI has purchased 2 users for each of its 38 sites, but sites can purchase more accounts at a discounted rate.

The following communities will help PNI determine how to thoughtfully and respectfully use data to get results by piloting Results Scorecard: SGA Youth and Family Services (Chicago, IL), Lutheran Family Health Center (Brooklyn, NY), The Guidance Center (River Rouge, MI), Berea College (Berea, KY), Cal State East Bay Foundation (Hayward, CA), Black Family Development (Detroit, MI), and the United Way of Central Massachusetts (Worcester, MA).

It is important to note that the Results Scorecard is not a longitudinal data system and therefore does not fulfill the Department of Education’s Promise Neighborhood grant requirement.
