Choice Neighborhoods Applicant List Available

The Department of Housing and Urban Development recently posted a complete list of applicants for Choice Neighborhoods Planning grants and Choice Neighborhoods Implementation grants. In total, there were 118 applicants competing for 12-15 planning grants worth up to $250,000 each and 42 applicants competing for  

2-4 implementation grants worth up to $31 million each.  

Last March, the Financing Community Change blog introduced the Choice Neighborhoods initiative to our readers. Congress appropriated $65 million for the effort, which like Promise Neighborhoods, was developed collaboratively across federal departments through the White House Office of Urban Affairs Interagency Working Group. Choice Neighborhood Funds are targeted in neighborhoods that meet three criteria: severely distressed public or assisted housing; concentration of poverty; and potential for long-term viability.
