During the last fiscal year, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $1 billion in funds and in-kind contributions globally. The Walmart Foundation funds organizations that engage in work in four key areas of focus: Hunger Relief and Healthy Eating, Sustainability, Women’s Economic Empowerment and Career Opportunity.

Through the Local Giving Program, grant awards range from $250 to $2,500 and are funded through local Walmart stores, Sam’s Clubs and Logistics facilities. Eligible applicants include: organizations that currently hold a tax-exempt status of 501(c)(3), (4), (6), or (19); a recognized government entity, including law enforcement or fire departments; a K-12 public or private school, charter school, or higher education institution; a church or other faith-based organization. The deadline to apply for the 2013 grant cycle is December 1, 2013. For more information, see Local Giving Guidelines and Local Giving FAQs. To apply, click here.

Please note that if seeking funds through a Sam’s Club location, additional focus areas are considered. To learn more about the Sam’s Club Giving Program, click here.

On a larger scale, the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program awards grants ranging from $25,000 to $250,000. Eligible applicants must be nonprofit organizations that operate on a regional/state level, or are affiliates of larger organizations that operate on a regional/state level. There are two application cycles per year – January to March and June through August. The application deadline for this year’s second funding cycle is August 9, 2013.
