The US Department of Labor (DOL) announced $39.7 million in grants to support the employment of low-income non-custodial parents and ex-offenders in seven communities across the nation. The grantees include:
  • Syracuse, NY (Center for Community Alternatives)
  • Atlanta, GA (Goodwill of North Georgia, Inc.)
  • San Francisco, CA (City and County of San Francisco)
  • Fort Worth, TX (Tarrant County Workforce Development Board)
  • New York, NY (The Doe Fund, Inc)
  • Indianapolis, IN (Workforce, Inc)
  • Milwaukee, WI (Young Women’s Christian Association of Greater Milwaukee)
These grants will remove significant barriers to employment by providing paid work experience for more than 3,500 individuals as they strive to acquire critical employment skills and achieve financial stability for themselves and their families. Each grantee will partner with several agencies, including employers, One-Stop Career centers, child support agencies and criminal justice agencies, in order to provide comprehensive support services for program participants. The Enhanced Transitional Jobs Demonstration grant provides support for up to four years and ensures that the 500 participants in each community receive job support for at least12-21 months. In addition, each community grantee will participate in a thorough impact evaluation to measure program effectiveness.
