Together for Tomorrow Winners Announced

This week, the Department of Education (ED) announced the winners of the 2012 Together for Tomorrow (TFT) School Improvement Challenge. An initiative spearheaded by ED, the Corporation for National and Community Service, and the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, TFT emphasizes the importance of community partnerships in improving academic outcomes for students throughout the nation. 

TFT recognizes that partnerships engaging teachers, families and community-based organizations are essential to the success of children as these partnerships have the potential to create high academic standards and support students socially, emotionally and academically.  For example, in Joplin, MO, the Bright Futures model brings together businesses, human service agencies, faith-based organizations, and parent groups and schools in a way that helps them to quickly and efficiently meet students’ basic needs – often within 24 hours. Providing the support and services necessary to assist students and families enables students and teachers to focus on education and the academic success of students.

TFT is not a grant program. Rather, the program recognize successful partnerships that have demonstrated positive student outcomes nationwide. The winners announced today have built partnerships that have addressed measurable student outcomes, including attendance, behavior, course performance and college access.
