Today the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced awards to over 900 community health centers and community-based organizations to enhance the quality and coordination of health care services across the country. Authorized by the Affordable Care Act, $47 million was awarded in every state to help improve quality and access to services and to support better primary care and behavioral health services for people with mental and substance abuse disorders. This includes $32 million administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to support 904 community health centers in achieving recognition as a patient-centered medical home as well as $15 million in grants from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for improving services for individuals with mental and substance use disorders.
