In recognition of the important connections between housing and health, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will fund research that examines the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of current or proposed efforts to promote healthy, environmental lifestyles through housing, particularly affordable housing managed by HUD. This initiative, Healthy Homes Technical Studies Program, supports HUD’s 2010- 2015 Strategic Goal to use housing as a platform for wellness. HUD expects to award three to five $300,000 to $700,000 cooperative agreements to academic, non-profit and for-profit institutions located in the United States, local governments and federally recognized Native American tribes.
Consistent with CSSP’s guidelines for effective community change, HUD requires researchers to incorporate meaningful community engagement into studies with significant resident interaction.
Research should be conclusive and applicable to on-the-ground work. Applications are due January 31, 2012. For more information on the application process, please click here.
