In recent weeks, states have been preparing to submit their No Child Left Behind (NCLB)/Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) waiver requests. With 11 requests already submitted and 28 anticipated in February, the Forum for Youth Investment has scheduled a webinar to help states understand how these waivers may impact expanded learning time opportunities.

As we’ve reported on our blog, states have the option to submit waiver requests on 10 key NCLB/ESEA provisions so long as they submit comprehensive proposals that address college and career readiness standards, accountability systems and teacher and principal effectiveness. In addition to the 10 mandatory waivers, there is an “optional waiver” that would allow schools to use funding for 21st Century Community Learning Centers – an after-school initiative – to support expanded learning opportunities during the school day. As states consider applying for this additional flexibility, this webinar will address how states can implement this flexibility in a manner that balances the need for both quality after-school programming and expanded learning opportunities during the school day.

The Forum for Youth Investment, along with several partners, will address this issue in a webinar titled Will Expanded Learning Time = Better Outcomes? on Thursday, December 8th at 3pm (EST). To register, please click here.
