$95 million in funding, provided through the Affordable Care Act, was recently awarded to 278 school-based health center programs across the country. These awardees are currently serving approximately 790,000 patients and the funding is estimated to increase their capacity to serve an additional 440,000 patients. The funds are to be used for construction for new sites or upgrades to current facilities. These funds are the first of a series of awards that are to support school-based health centers under the Affordable Care Act.
