Today, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced that 26 additional states and the District of Columbia have formally applied for waivers that would exempt them from compliance with key components of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) in exchange for the development and implementation of "bold education reforms".
These applications were submitted for the 2nd round of the waiver process, with 11 states receiving waivers during the 1st round, and additional states expected to submit applications by September 6, 2012 for consideration in the 3rd round.
