White House Launches "Together for Tomorrow"

The White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, in collaboration with the Department of Education (DOE) and the Corporation for National and Community Service, has launched “Together for Tomorrow” – a national initiative that aims to engage communities as partners in turning around low-performing schools. Recognizing that school improvement initiatives require broad community support, Together for Tomorrow will spotlight and foster partnerships between schools, families, service programs and community-based organizations (both faith-based and secular) to create a community culture that values high academic standards and a shared responsibility for school improvement. Specifically, Together for Tomorrow will focus on building partnerships that will improve critical student outcomes, such as attendance, behavior, academic performance and college access.

Six demonstration sites throughout the nation are currently operating and, over the course of the initiative, will demonstrate how partnerships can be built within communities to improve student outcomes. For example, a partnership between the New Haven Education AmeriCorps VISTA project, New Haven Public Schools and the United Way of Greater New Haven is focused on developing services that will provide wraparound support to students and their families.
