The Coalition for Community Schools is hosting a webinar about the Department of Education’s new Race to the Top – District (RTT-D) competition. The Department of Education’s RTT-D proposal was announced in May and focuses on individual classroom instruction, whereas previous RTT competitions focused on statewide reform efforts. With an more individualized focus, RTT-D is an opportunity for districts to identify strategies that will improve teacher instruction, provide new or enhanced instructional opportunities for students and improve relationships between teachers and students, for example. RTT-D identifies communities as a critical partner in this work, recognizing that partnerships with local organizations are critical to the academic success of children and the well-being of their families.

The Coalition for Community Schools has invited district and community leaders to participate in this webinar and share their experiences with the development of district-community partnerships similar to those outlined in the RTT-D criteria. This webinar will be a great opportunity to hear about the work being done in other communities and gather insight about how your community can support effective partnerships with local schools.

The webinar will take place on Tuesday, June 21st from 11am-12pm EST. For more information or to register, please click here.

Stay tuned to our blog for updates about the RTT-D Competition, which is expected to be launched in July.
