Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced “Innovation of the Day” (IOD) – a web-based resource that will highlight innovative housing, community development and other urban practices. In an effort to crowd-source new models and practices that exist in communities throughout the world, the IOD web-portal allows users - including agencies, cities, nonprofit organizations and individual citizens - to submit innovations occurring in their own communities, as well as search for what is happening in other communities.

The IOD platform has the potential to be an extremely valuable tool, providing users with immediate access to strategies and solutions that are being implemented to improve access to affordable housing and impact community development throughout the nation. The sharing of these models and best practices may stimulate new learning, connect individuals and places that might not otherwise communicate with one another, and engage the community change field in rich discussions about how to best meet the needs of individual communities and their residents.

The HUD Office for International and Philanthropic Innovation will be hosting a webinar – Bridging Grassroots Innovation & Federal Policy: HUD’s Innovation of the DAY (IOD) Initiative – to introduce the IOD web-portal and encourage participants to think about how IOD can be used to spark new learning in communities nationwide.

The webinar will take place on Thursday, December 13 from 2pm-3pm (ET). Please click here to register.
