4/20 UPDATE: After this blog post was made, the U.S. Department of Education published a press release which states that the deadline for submission of Promise Neighborhoods grant applications is July 27, 2012. There was a discrepancy related to the submission deadline in both the planning and implementation notices (see below for more information).
Today, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) released notices inviting applications for new Promise Neighborhoods Program planning and implementation grants for FY12.
For planning grants, ED believes that it will have $7 million available for up to 15 awards averaging about $467,000, and not exceeding $500,000, over no longer than a 12 month period.
For implementation grants, ED estimates that it will have almost $28 million available for approximately 5-7 awards averaging about $5 million, and not exceeding $6 million, during each annual budget period over a 3-5 year period, contingent on available funding.
For both planning and implementation grants, the deadline for submitting a notice of intent to apply is June 8, 2012 and the deadline for transmittal of applications is either June 19 or July 27, 2012 (pending ED confirmation). (Please note that there is a discrepancy in the deadline for submission of applications in the notices, with the beginning of each notice identifying July 27, 2012 and the body of the notices mentioning June 19, 2012. We will include the correct information in a future post after ED has confirmed the deadline for submission.)
For complete information, you can view the notice regarding planning grants here, and the notice for implementation grants here.
Please check our blog next week for in-depth analysis of both the planning and implementation grant notices.
