Webinar: 2012 Grad Nation Report

In March, America’s Promise Alliance released “Building a Grad Nation: Progress and Challenge in Ending the High School Dropout Epidemic.” In an effort to share more detailed information about the data and research in this report, America’s Promise Alliance and the Alliance for Excellent Education will be hosting a webinar on April 25th.

As captured on our blog last month, the 2012 report highlights our nation’s gain in graduation rates, increasing from 72% in 2001 to 75.5% in 2009. However, these numbers are far from perfect as many students, particularly minority students, struggle to remain in school and achieve academic success. According to Grad Nation report, children who are unable to read well by 4th grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school compared to their peers. This statistic is of great concern as the report points out that, in 2011, 34% of white 4th graders scored at or above proficiency while only 17% of black 4th graders scored at the same level.

This webinar will provide further insight into the data presented in the report, as well as our nation’s efforts to tackle dropout rates. In addition, the webinar will address questions submitted by participants, which may provide communities with information about local initiatives and community-based efforts that can reduce high school dropout rates.
